Sailing & Radio licenses

I seem to remember, that when I was „sitting“ the first time on a sailing boat, probably around 1982 on the Ossiacher See in Austria, I was quite afraid, because the boat was very shaky. Nowadays, when the ship is heeling over, it doesn’t affect me any longer. A wonder? A bit later, in 1983, triggered by some colleagues in Frankfurt/Main, I sat on a class for a sailing certificate on inland waterways under sail and motor. 3 years later I went to Italy for the next level of sailing, and I got the INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE for Yachts Motorized/Sailing in costal waters. Then in October 2020 I made the Catsailing Licence to be followed in 2023 by the Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate for Inland Waterways and in 2024 the Short Range Certificate.

Hélas, I did not sail a lot over the past decades, which I regret quite a bit. In 1996, during a weekend seminar organized by Nokia on the Island of Sandhamn (Sweden). One morning participants were invited to sail a little course on their beautiful wooden 25 m sailing boat. Of course, they had a professional skipper on board. We sailed in two teams against the clock, and I was happy to be on board of the winning team (lower picture on the letf side: Nokia Cup). Together with my son, I once sailed for an afternoon on lake Michigan and another time I was invited on board of the sailing yacht of the Manhattan Yacht Club.
