Sailing trip : Martinique – Grenadines – Martinique approx. 350 nm 07.03.-20.03.2026 Duration: 13 days
Our sailing trip starts in Le Marin, which is the perfect port of departure thanks to its infrastructure and charm. After stocking up on provisions at the nearby French supermarket, we enjoy our first Caribbean evening with a lovely meal in a typical restaurant by the harbour.
Cast off, we’re off to St Lucia!
After a royal breakfast and safety briefing, the mooring lines are cast off and the excitement begins. We must remain highly focused as we follow the navigation buoys that guide us through several reefs out to the open sea. Then the sails are set and the first leg takes us straight to St. Lucia. Now we are experiencing what Caribbean sailing really means. The long Atlantic swell, which has built up over hundreds of miles, and the steady easterly wind allow us to glide through the water on a half-wind course. Our destination is the legendary Rodney Bay, where we drop anchor in the evening. After a long swim, we whip up something delicious in the galley. Next door is the famous marina, where the last stragglers from the ARC arrive in December and early January. The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.
We continue on to St. Vincent. This island, virtually untouched by tourism, offers magnificent volcanic landscapes set against a backdrop of dense rainforest. Here, our yacht anchors in Cumberland Bay, where local youths help us moor the shore line to the palm tree. Fruit and jewellery merchants visit us with their boats, offer their services and bring fresh bread the next morning.
Off to the Grenadines
The next destination is Bequia, an island that is pure Caribbean. The friendliness of the people and a Planter’s Punch in the legendary Frangipani Bar allow us to completely forget our everyday lives. The next few days are characterised by fantastic sailing at 4-5 Bft., bays with turquoise blue water and white sandy beaches with palm trees. The Tobago Cays with their spectacular Horseshoe Reef, the little-known Petit St. Vincent with its magnificent beaches, or Palm Island and Mustique with its famous Basil’s Bar are just some of the highlights we anchor our yacht in front of. Snorkelling enthusiasts will find this place an absolute paradise!
Back to Martinique
As soon as we can leave Bequia behind, we will set off on our journey back to Martinique. Of course, we won’t miss the opportunity to visit the famous Wallilabou Bay. Large parts of the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ were filmed here. In St. Lucia, we head for Soufriere Bay with its famous Piton peaks, the island’s landmark. Of course, the well-known Marigot Bay is also a must-see. It was the setting for films such as Dr Dolittle and is arguably one of the most beautiful anchorages in the Caribbean. Although we still haven’t had enough, it’s now time to head back to Martinique. Here we conclude our wonderful sailing trip in Le Marin with a final dinner together.
