Naval Cutter 5

One day, a long distance was sailed. Out of the harbour, up the fjord to just before Laboe.

I tracked the course with my GPS-watch. Picture to the right.

We had quite a bit of bad luck that day. A large sailing ship was sailing just ahead of us, but we couldn’t overtake it. We had to tack, but the ship was in the way. Going around behind the ship would have meant a significant loss of time. Finally, our skipper called the mainsail and asked him to ‘slow down a bit’. It worked, but we had already lost some time.

A special feature of this type of boat is that the gaff had to be shifted during every manoeuvre.
